I always got asked if I would ever release jar candles in addition to our sculptural and decorative pieces. I always new that this was something I wanted to create but was unsure how I would execute my vision.
Design started in September of 2023 and I am now launching approximately 1 year later on the 1st of September 2024. Flowers have been a large part of branding for theanxiousburner so it only made sense for the vessels to emulate this. I received the custom moulds for our jars once designs were finalised through 3D printing, the fun part began.
I tested several different mediums and finally fell in love with jesmonite, which is what our jars are made from. Jesmonite is an eco-friendly safe alternative to concrete which was one of the mediums that was trialled prior to using jesmonite. It is a water-based medium and contains no harmful chemicals. It is impact resistant, fire resistant and lightweight. Once I pour the jesmonite the moulds sit to set, I demould them and then proceed to sand and seal them.
Once I was satisfied with the finish of the jars it was then time to put the wax and wicks to the test. Originally I was set on having our jars with wooden wicks but shortly changed my mind once we entered the testing phase. Some people find the slight crackling noise of wooden wicks quite peaceful and pleasant, but I found it irritating and I thought to myself - when I light a candle, I want to be in ultimate zen mode and not focus on the crackling of my candle.
